Corporate Training to E-Learning: Making the Quantum Shift

Here are 5 quick tips to transform a
corporate training program
into a highly engaging e-learning course!
With technology becoming more personal, e-learning (in all its avatars) is catching up momentum in a big way.
While most forward looking corporates have invested in LMSs and others are fast catching up, it is very important to ensure that you have the right content in the right form to get maximum benefits from the shift to e-learning.
Some of the most common reasons that I have come across for organizations making the shift to e-learning or planning for it are:
  1. Reducing overall cost of Training
  2. Better reach to the audience spread across a wide geography and
  3. Lack of competent trainers on a subject at desired locations.
While the reasons could be many more, once a decision is made to make the quantum shift (especially of converting a class-room training program into a self paced learning course), there are few very important aspects to be considered to achieve maximum value from the initiative.
  1. Understand all possible and available e-learning modes and choose the most optimal one (or a combination) like Live online programs, Learning videos, SCORM modules, blended courses etc.
  2. Content is King! (as Bill Gates rightly said a few years ago). Most training programs are run by trainers with a lot of experience and expertise. Hence most of the content (especially examples) rests in their minds, which they narrate at the appropriate time. It is better to record a complete live training program and provide the recorded video to the Instructional Designer to use the content to design a highly focused e-learning module.
  3. Make the course very “compelling” for the learner to engage proactively by using scenarios, games and activities. If it’s an asynchronous course, the learner is learning at his/her time and pace. Make it worth the effort!
  4. Test it; before you trust it.
Test the new course on a small set of target audience to ensure
                Proper accessibility over various devises
Is it too long or too short (as per their opinion)
                 Language and pace
And most importantly, did they learn? and are they eager for the next                      module?
5. Make it social!
E-Learning provides you an opportunity to engage the learners in social                  interactions and competitions over chats, discussion boars etc. which                       further lead to better understanding and motivation.
